About Grant Valentine

I grew up on the outskirts of New York City in a small beach town on Long Island. After graduating from Five Towns College I worked as an Intern at Quad Studios then as a General Assistant at Avatar (now Power Station). After Avatar, I became a Staff Engineer at Sear Sound in Manhattan.

While at Sear Sound I worked alongside renowned engineers on albums with legendary artists such as; Paul Simon, D’Angelo, Yoko Ono, Christian Mcbride, Kurt Elling, Brett Eldredge and Jack White. Two albums I contributed to won Grammys. Gregory Porter's "Take Me to the Alley" (Best Jazz Vocal Album) and and Sting & Shaggy's 44/876 (Best Reggae Album). I engineered sessions for Sting, Fleet Foxes and Sam Smith. At Sear Sound I was able to work with the largest microphone collection on the east coast and some of the most sought after vintage analog gear ever made.

After meeting Shaggy on the 44/876 album I left the staff of Sear Sound to become a Freelance Engineer working out of his private NY studio. I engineered Shaggy’s  album Wah Gwann?!?, Hot Shot 2020 & Christmas in the Islands. Under Shaggy’s label Ranch Entertainment, I engineered for Maxi Priest, Estelle, Stylo G, Spice & many other artists.

Throughout my tenure as an Engineer I have built relationships with studios all over New York City. I will select the right studio to curate your sound, while accommodating any size or budget. I have experience engineering pop, reggae, dancehall, large & small jazz ensembles, rock bands, orchestral recordings and Broadway cast albums. I will capture the sounds you envision and bring them to life all while creating a collaborative fun atmosphere in the room.

I am available for studio sessions, remote editing and mixing.
